Discovering the Human Adventure (FC110) is a special course for students who are “undecided” about what major to choose. HU101 acts together with First Year Seminar (FC101) to create an interdisciplinary study that explores the human urge to search for knowledge and meaning and apply it to everyday life. The course looks at human connections among topics including art, literature, business, social sciences and more. Using the disciplines as a springboard, the course explores individual, societal and cultural values in the modern, global and information age. Mitchell faculty and others also supplement the class with guest appearances, telling their “stories”, discussing their work, answering questions, and putting a human face on the different specialties. In addition, students work with exploration and decision making exercises that lead to implementing a choice of major.
