Social Activism Toolkit: A Guide to "Finding Your Inner Activist"

Targeting Communication

Communication, both written and oral, is a pillar of social activism; and as such the Communication Ability may be incorporated into every introductory and core course within the First Year College. Identifying one’s position on an issue and stating that position to others either in writing or in oral presentation format is essential.  Therefore, an effective approach might be to incorporate into the curriculum a component that asks students to state and support their position, and also demonstrate their understanding of opposing perspectives on a chosen current issue. The position statement may be either written, verbal, illustrative, and/or multi-media in format.
