Organizing Presentation Slides

Suggestions for a Slide Show:

  1. Title slide (Include Your Name, Course Name, Date)
  2. Introduction
    • Capture audience's interest
    • Identify topic
    • Addresses revelant aspects of topic
  3. Research Findings
    • Present in-depth information
    • Credible sources
    • Various points of view
    • Provide clarity through examples, illustrations or graphs 
  4. Conclusion
    • Restate topic
    • Summarize main points
    • States logical conclusion based on findings

Presentation Guidelines

Plan

  • Know your audience
  • What's your message?
  • Start with big picture, narrow to 3 -4 points
  • Create an outline
  • Plan on paper before start visuals (PPT)

Prepare

  • Edit aggressively
  • Use appropriate visual aids
  • Notes/Note cards -never read from slides
  • Dress appropriately
  • Audience Questions

Practice

  • Rehearse with an audience

  • Background should not be too busy/distracting
  • Lighting - Coming in front of camera or above
  • Camera Position - Speaker's shoulders and part of torso visible
  • Audio - Good microphone and speak louder 
  • Eye Contact - Use Notes to help keep you focused on camera
