Organizing Presentation Slides

Suggestions for a PowerPoint Slide Show:

  1. Title slide (Include Your Name, Course Name, Date)
  2. Introduction
    • Capture audience's interest
    • Identify topic
    • Addresses revelant aspects of topic
  3. Research Findings
    • Present in-depth information
    • Credible sources
    • Various points of view
    • Provide clarity through examples, illustrations or graphs 
  4. Conclusion
    • Restate topic
    • Summarize main points
    • States logical conclusion based on findings
  5. Works Cited slide
  6. Media Cited slide

Plan

  • Know your audience
  • What's your message?
  • Start with big picture, narrow to 3 -4 points
  • Create an outline
  • Plan on paper before start visuals (PPT)

Prepare

  • Edit aggressively
  • Use appropriate visual aids
  • Note cards -never read from slides
  • Dress appropriately
  • Audience Questions

 

Practice

  • Rehearse with an audience
  • Practice enunciation
  • Eye contact with audience
  • Pace yourself and stay within time parameters
  • You are the presentation

b. Run/test slideshow prior to presentation
