Remote Teaching Support

In support of faculty developing their courses in remote and hybrid formats.

Pre-Semester Checklist

Starfish
  • Set up online office hours (Zoom-based) (instructions; 5 tips for virtual office hours)
  • Review the Starfish Flag raising process (instructions)
  • Review the Referrals option (LIS, Tutors, ICD) (Menu - Students
  • Review available Services (LIS, DSS, ICD) (Menu - Services)
Faculty Portal
  • Ensure correct semester and courses are showing (Click on gear icon on main page)
  • Review taking attendance process (Show - All Dates)
  • Upload course syllabus (Gradebook - Add Class Documents) *Note you'll need to use Mozilla Firefox
Moodle/Open LMS
  • Upload your syllabus (instructions)
  • Post your Zoom class information (instructions)
  • Post an introduction about yourself (a photo with text or a short recorded Zoom video works great!)
  • Make your course visible to students (instructions)
  • Send a Quickmail or post an Announcement explaining what to do on the first day of class
RAVE Alert
  • Log into Rave, add a phone number to your profile to receive text alerts
  • If already signed up, review or update phone and email contact information

Assess Student Readiness

Add the Remote Learner Readiness Survey to your Moodle Course

A feedback template is available to you including recommended questions to ask that give you a picture of your students' readiness in the remote learning environment.  Steps below.

  • Go to your course in Moodle
  • Click the settings wheel and choose Turn editing on
  • Click Add an Activity or Resource
  • Select Feedback, click Add
  • Give the activity a name, click Save and Display
  • Click the Templates tab
  • Under Use a Template, choose "Remote Learner Readiness Survey"
  • Click Save Changes
  • Encourage your students to complete the Feedback activity
